You know what? I LOVE Valentine’s Day. “It’s just an excuse to get consumers spending money.” “It’s ONE DAY. Can’t you show people you love them EVERY DAY?” “It’s just a way to show all us single girls out there that no boys like us!” I can hear all you naysayers out there spitting those lines out over and over again but you are missing the magic of Valentine’s Day!

First of all, I don’t care about the whole “consumers this, consumers that” argument. You’re not forced to buy anything on Valentine’s Day. Be creative and cut your own flowers. Make your own gift. Many girls would find a jar of 15 reasons why you love them to be one of the best gifts out there. We don’t DEMAND you spend money. We just enjoy it when you show your love! And who cares if it’s ONE DAY?! Life gets so hectic sometimes and you just forget to show those you love just how much you love them! I think it’s awesome that we have one day a year that’s solely dedicated to that! Not to mention it’s almost a guarantee that you’ll get chocolates in a heart shaped box from SOMEONE. I mean, is there really anything better than that?! And then there’s the singles of the world crying about being alone…. well last Valentine’s Day I was alone. I spent it at a grocery store watching everyone buy flowers and chocolate and whatever else to bring to their girlfriends/boyfriends and you know what?! I LOVED it! It was so much fun to see how everyone was all excited to give them their gifts! I loved the feeling of “love in the air”. I LOVE seeing hearts and pink and red and sparkles everywhere!

I think Valentine’s Day is a great day with a great meaning behind it. Love is, after all, what we’re all looking for in life, is it not? Why not celebrate it?! You don’t have to celebrate your love for BOYS. I’ve had friend Valentines before! Come on, be creative! But to all you haters out there, I have one thing to say. Try as you may to rain on my lovey-dovey, heart-filled, sugar-eating parade, I’ll be the one humming love songs, getting fat from chocolate, writing love notes, smelling the roses (literally), and daydreaming and you’ll be…..sitting there under a stormy rain cloud HATING on the one day of the year dedicated to LOVE. Come on now, HAVE A HEART! <3
